Complete Dentures
Complete dentures are needed when most or all of the teeth are missing or need replaced. Complete dentures are either conventional or immediate. Conventional dentures are typically ready for placement in the mouth about eight to 12 weeks after the teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has begun to heal. Due to the healing period needed before complete dentures can be placed, Dr. Breckner provides his patients with temporary, immediate dentures so that his patients do not have to go without teeth. Immediate dentures may require periodic adjustments to fit properly since the gums will shrink during the healing process.
Partial Dentures
A partial denture is an option when only a few teeth are missing or need replaced. Partial dentures are used when one or more teeth remain in the upper or lower jaw. A removable partial denture is one that consists of replacement teeth attached to a gum-colored plastic base. Another option is a fixed partial denture, which provides a more stable fit as the denture is cemented into place. A partial denture helps prevent other natural teeth from changing position as a result of the gap created from missing teeth.
Implant Snap-On Dentures
Implant snap-on dentures are an innovative solution to replacing missing teeth. An implant snap-on denture is attached to implants placed in the gum as opposed to conventional dentures, which rest on the gum, making them unstable and less likely to stay in place. Implant snap-on dentures are typically recommended when a person doesn’t have teeth, but does have enough bone in the gum to support the snap-on denture. This is a practical approach to making a denture secure because it requires as little as two implants for it to work.
Those qualified to get implant snap-on dentures like them for many reasons. For one, it is very strong and stable because it is fixed in place, and typically eliminates slippage and movement, allowing a person to eat foods that may have been difficult to eat with conventional dentures. The implant snap-on can be made more like a bridge than a denture in that it doesn’t have a center palette, making it one of the most natural, comfortable dental solutions for those with missing teeth.
Fixed Full Arch Implant
For anyone missing all of their teeth on the upper or lower jaw, a fixed full-arch implant prosthesis may be an alternative to dentures. A fixed full-arch implant prosthesis requires careful planning and coordination before the process ever begins. This dental solution involves placing multiple implants in the gum that will securely attach to a custom-made prosthetic. This is a permanent solution that offers a very natural feel and look. This type of solution is also called a Hybrid Implant Prosthesis, meaning that it is a cross between a bridge and a denture.
